We are hiring

We are currently seeking PhD students (5 years) and post-docs (3 years) that are interested in doing theoretical research at the interface of physics and biology. The research and publication sections of this site give an indication of the style of the group. However, we aim at being different from ourselves, so your research project will look unlike previous ones.

The ideal candidate will have a strong theoretical physics background. No previous knowledge of biology is required, although an honest willingness to learn is a must. Some of our work is purely theoretical (see this example), and some has an experimental component, either through collaboration with experimental groups (see this example) or analysis of publicly available data (see this example). Therefore, candidates must be open-minded about using whatever tools necessary to solve the problem at hand: analytics, numerics, or data analysis.

We are located at the Gulbenkian Institute. Being in a great biology institute has clear advantages in terms of collaborations. In addition, our goal is to establish interactions with the local and international physics community through an (already funded) visitors program.

If you want to apply, write an email to psartori (at) igc.gulbenkian.pt Please include a copy of your CV and the names of three potential referrals.

Visit us

Our group aims at having a very active visitors program, especially among the biophysicis community. In addition, the Gulbenkian Institute has a sabbatical program. So if you are interested in visiting for a short or a long period of time, please write an e-mail to psartori (at) rockefeller.edu

Other opportunities at Gulbenkian

In the link to the right you can find other calls at the Gulbenkian Institute. These include programs such as biology by the numbers, for theorists from the exact sciences that want to transition to do experiments in biology.
